Experiment essay
Water is one of the liquid phases of H2O. It could form almost every formation when it turns to solid form. It is one of the three states of matter. Similar to gas it could take shape of the container and fill up the area. The characteristic of liquid is surface tension. Unlike from liquid, solid expand to fill fully with the container. It has lot of properties within itself. The properties I’m focusing in is the how object absorb water to change it form and also how as color or other substance come in and interact with water.
I had experiment about the liquid transformation. The liquid that I use is water. The brief of my experiment is the properties of water that leak into the magic crystal soil that could absorb the water to expand. I made it more interesting by putting some food color to make sure that it absorbs water.
The experiment that I was performing is how the Magic Crystal Soil expands to interact with water. First, I put in the magic crystal soil in the water and after 10 minute I took a picture. It expands little by little and after about 1 hour it became a jelly like. Each one looks different even though when it is in crystal form it looks very similar in shape. On the other part of the experiment, I put in the blue food color in the water and observe how it moves to fill in the available water space. It forms a nice piece of art as the blue starts to interact with water. The next experiment is when the color water is dump into the bowl, the water bounce back as the surface. It forms a nice water wave and if we carefully observe the water, it shows the water movement.
As I was surfing through the internet, I found an ice artist named Nele Azevedo who created ice sculptures of melting men. He created hundreds of sitting figures out of an ice installation till the last one melt in the heat days. I was inspired by his work to create a form by using ice. As I research further I found the method of making hot ice, which could lead me to create a form of sculpture within a short period of time and we could not predict the result of the work.
On the next experiment, I focus on how liquid change it forms into a solid state. First, I use sodium acetate and I dissolved it in near boiling water until no more is absorb into liquid. At first I boil the water and put in sodium acetate and stir it, before the water start to boil. When all sodium acetate is dissolve, we pour the water into a glass or any form of container. Then, we put the container inside the refrigerator. After fill hours, we take it out and pour the substance in the tray. Then touch it or anything to touch the surface of the water. The substance would slowly form a crystal-like phase until it becomes a solid form which is an ice. We could also pour down the substance into any form of tray and it would build up into crystal and we could control it.
